Mystery Eggs

“One hundred words to tell a story about a picture. “Easy!” you say. Click the link below and try it yourself. Thank you for the weekly challenge Rochelle!”

I wrote this story in answer to the following prompts:
Friday Fictioneers – Write a 100-word story based on the Photo Prompt image by David Stewart

Mystery Eggs

The eggs arrived on the icerink Wednesday. They’d brightened every day.

“Eight feet by five feet – no known creature could lay these,” proclaimed scientists.

Large crowds gathered by Sunday night. They knew what they were. “Dragons! Dragons! Dragons!” they chanted.

From the top of the Ferris wheel, I looked upon the sea of ultraviolet-blue and pink eggs. Smiling I pressed a button. “Not dragons!”

The eggs burst open in an explosion of sparks. Energising percussion music rumbled into the watcher’s chests. Before them dancers erupted from the yolks with majestic cartwheels, somersaults and backflips – it was party time!

      1. Yes it seems we do. One of the reasons I gave up on publishing was editors always wanting to delete half my stories. Now I just enjoy short story writing and this one is particularly fun.
