Handcuffed

“It’s been a tough week or so for me. My nerve damage flared up despite using diction forcing me away from my computer and writing. Its on the mend again but I don’t know for how long. There are MRI’s and maybe surgery in the future but until then. I may have to take more and longer breaks. For now here’s a little poem about my handcuffed hands.”

I wrote this poem in answer to the following prompts:
Pensitivity’s Three Things Challenge 489 — Pair – Ballet – Mellow
Your Daily Prompt — Irenic

Handcuffed

Writing requires a healthy pair of hands
Mine often feel squashed by rubber bands
My fingers won’t type a ballet of letters
Nerve damage holds them in fetters

So, I’m forced to take some mellow times
Although not writing feels like committing crimes
I try to stay irenic and calm
No typing saves my hands from further harm

So, I’m sorry if you miss me
I know some of you love my tales you see
I miss being able to type like a madman
Rest assured, I’ll write whenever I can

Thanks for reading my friends. There’s more in the Poetry CornerShort Stories. and Short Stories 2 tabs.

Have a great day!

      1. Thanks Mason. It goes with getting old, and affecting various parts of the body now. My hands are getting worse, I can’t grip sometimes, and have had to modify the way I play the piano as it hurts the joints. Can you have an op for your carpal tunnel?

      2. My grandmother suffered terribly with arthritis. Its a mean old affliction for sure.

For now the hospitals wont see anyone for anything unless its the virus or they’re dying. but yes I have to have MRI’s and X-rays to find the cause and then maybe a surgery to widen the nerve canal.

      3. I manage OK really. I have painkillers and some wonderful cream which is hysterical because it says after applying the cream to wash your hands…………. erm, it is my hands that need the cream!!
My Mum had the op and it made things considerably better for her. Mind you, that was many years ago now as we were still in the cottage so pre 2014.

      4. ha! that works. Apply cream then wash it off so it doesn’t help lol

Glad it helped your mum. Seems it might for me just as soon as I can actually have it done anyway. At least a few days rest here and there helps anyway.
