Ben’s Doughnuts

It’s been a long month of reflection for me. I came to realise that my website and everything you see wasn’t helping me. I learned that despite all my social media following, nobody really likes my brand of writing by my lack of sales. I came close to deleting everything and vanishing into the darkness. Then I got bored and decided to write a thing or two. Even if I’m the only one who truly enjoys it. So, lets have a little poetry.

I wrote this poem in answer to the following prompts:
Sadje’s What Do You See – picture above by  Jovan Vasiljević
FOWC with Fandango — Radioactive
Pensitivity’s Three Things Challenge — Particular – Piece – Quality

Ben’s Doughnuts

Baker Ben was particular about his doughnut
Whether it be Jam, chocolate or coconut
His brand of doughnut was a quality piece
It was adored by the chief of police

Then came the new doughnut flavoured with lime
It’s taste and texture were quite sublime
In Halloween green it wasn’t so attractive
Even the bomb squad thought it radioactive

Baker Ben really didn’t mind
His doughnuts are one of a kind
He knows his round treat is scrummy
Come and gorge for a happy tummy

Thanks for reading my friends.

There’s more in the Poetry CornerPoetry Nook, and the Short Story Collection

Have a great day!

  1. I’m glad you’re back Mason and I know it’s difficult to perceive your worth when you’re looking at sales, but know this, I find your work not only a pleasure to read but also insightful, evocative and enjoyable. Remember in the end you only need to enjoy yourself, for if you do something well, recognition will follow.

  2. That’s a great, feel-good poem, Mason!

PS – if I based my writing success on sales, I’d give up too. I write because I love to write. If people enjoy what I’ve written, both on my blog and in my books, that’s a bonus 🙂

    1. Hello, Chris.

Sorry my website ate your comments. I found them in my spam folder and restored them.
I’m glad you enjoyed my poem. And I agree I have to focus on writing and enjoying for me and not worry about numbers.
      Thank you so much,

      1. Hi Mason, I don’t think it’s your site. It seems to be happening a lot to my comments suddenly. If you find I’ve dropped a ‘like’ in and run away, I think you’ll find the comment in spam! Maybe WP don’t like doughnuts!!

      2. Good morn ing, Chris.

My site uses Akismet spam blocker. If the other sites are too, then maybe it’s detecting something odd. Either way this and your other messages arrived okay this morning, so hopefully it’s okay now.

It’s jealous of doughnuts because it cant eat them lol

  3. This is a great, feel good poem, Mason! I always enjoy your posts 🙂

If I measured my success in sales I’d probably give up too! I write because I love to write. If people enjoy what I’ve written both on my blog and in my books, that’s a bonus.

  4. I’m glad that you are back. Commercial success eludes so many talented people and finds so many hacks, that if we hold that to be the key to fulfillment we have to wonder how things get judged.
It may be best to accept the critical acclaim of your peers ( which you have), and if and when the commercial success comes along just gracefully accept it as your just due.

  5. Hi Mason. It’s good to have you back. So many of us would love to have our words turn into best sellers, but so few succeed. Just know that those of us who follow your blog appreciate your writing and are thrilled to see your return.

  6. I already said it is nice to see you back.
But look, buddy, you have to do all of this because you enjoy it. That’s the whole point. To have fun putting words on a page. If nobody else enjoys them, so what?

As for self-publishing, show me a successful self-publisher and I’ll show you a million unsuccessful. If your end goal is for people to read you, go start writing marketying material.

I bet you do enjoy writing, if you just look at that any no further. That is the endgame, buddy. Concentrate on being as good at it as you can be.
