“”The sun shines upon me so blindingly I can barely see my screen. Alas, I found a few minutes to write so let’s have a fun tale shall we?”
I wrote this story in answer to the following prompt:
Friday Fictioneers – Write a 100-word piece based on the Photo Prompt image above – © Dale Rogerson
Ragtag Daily Prompt — Balloon
Your Daily Word — Obviate
Word of the Day Challenge — Poignant
Fandango’s One-Word Challenge – Help
The Safest Savings
“Oh no! Where is it!” Edwina worried as she scanned the bookshelves.
Brexit had managed to obviate her bank account. But Edwina was canny, she’d hidden some savings.
The money was now so safe even she couldn’t find it.
She rifled through many romance, science and travelogue books.
“It’s hopeless! Like finding a particular balloon in a party warehouse!”
A feline growl emanated from the bookshelf as ’The Wealthy Barber’ crashed back into place.
Zaza the tawny cat shook her head. Deciding to help she nosed ‘Sapiens’ onto the floor spilling wads of cash.
Edwinna grinned, ‘Thank heavens for a witches cat.’
The End
Have you ever hidden money in a strange place to keep it safe and maybe lost it? Why not share in the comments for fun?
Don’t forget Holly Ward investigates, Stolen Treasures is out on Amazon now!
A recent bank robbery. A saddened man. A coded message. Can they all be connected?
Young Sleuth Holly Ward is determined to help the man. It’s not long before she too comes under assault from a group of dangerous individuals. In the face of intimidation, abduction and even murder can Holly solve the clues and catch the criminals before she becomes the next Stolen Treasure?

Thanks for reading my friends.

In the distant past I regularly left my wage packet down the back of the sofa. My other half still has to sub me. It’s the Yorkshire way of life, say I

I just remember the days of wage packets. I bet more of those got lost than spent!
Thanks Michael.

Dear Mason,
That’s the kind of cat to have. The cats I’ve had merely shredded furniture. 😉 Cute story.

Haha yup give them a dozen scratching posts and they’ll still choose the leather sofa! Thanks for reading!

I actually do have bills hidden in a certain book. Old Canadian bills – not worth quite so much, unfortunately, so this is particularly resonant!

Hi, Dale.
See I got the idea because I have the same filing system. Thanks for reading.

I’ve always kept a couple small notes squirrelled for emergencies. My grandmother taught me that one. Thanks, Linda.

You and Iain had the same idea, to let the cat be a helper. A witches cat can come in handy and looks great on a broom.

Hello, Jade.
I’m struggling to find time to read again this week. Hopefully later today. I agree about the cat being great though, thank you!

Good stuff, I always lose stuff, mainly pieces of paper Ive written something on to remember and will always forget, my world could be a world of possibilities, maybe I should get a cat.

Thank you.
I often write notes and then read them back later and wonder what on Earth the note was for – airheaded writer here for sure!

I never thought about witches being affected by Brexit. Clever familiar saves the day.

I’m told witches cant effect finances or love so I thought Brexit was a fun add.
Thanks GH.

Perhaps the witch’s cat has the purrrfect memory and could sense the frustration on the hunt for the cash.
We once had an old Tea flask handed in to the charity shop-hidden inside was a great wad of £20 notes…

I do think animals like cats and dogs have better memories and senses than humans.
I wonder if the £20s were a donation or truly hidden and lost?

Lucky she had the cat. I could do with one of those when my keys go missing.

Not cash, but I have hidden things and forgotten where they are. Perhaps I should get a cat!

Hi, Keith.
I think we all do that at times. I know Lucy dog doesn’t help me so I need a cat too.
