A Murderous Rhyme

“Who doesn’t love a good murder mystery? Although my special sleuth Holly doesn’t always have to solve a murder, she does enjoy reading about them and uncovering the killer if she can. Here’s a whimsical poetic way to tell a murder.”

I wrote this poem in answer to the following prompts:
FOWC with Fandango  — Dirty
Pensitivity’s Three Things Challenge — Quizzical – Riot – Roast

A Murderous Rhyme

It began with a bloody hand print
Gory odours masked by peppermint
Detective Rogers came, bold and brash
Examined the body thrown in the trash

The victim was shamefully young
A stiletto dagger pierced her tongue
Here was a quizzical case
Rogers found the murderer’s trace

Soon the murder hit the front page
A riot erupted through public outrage
Rogers simply followed his clues
The victim’s knowledge cost her deathly dues

For days the detective investigated
Until the murderer was located
Rogers had sat down for Sunday lunch
A lightbulb pinged, he was off on a hunch

He’d sacrificed a chicken roast
But would settle for beans on toast
For now, the suspect was revealed
His cellular fate sealed

Armed police helped with the arrest
The murderer soon confessed
His dirty secrets couldn’t be told
A reputation he had to uphold

Rogers charged him for killing his wife
The judge sentenced him to life
The detective was rewarded and hailed
He smiled for today he’d prevailed

Thanks for reading my friends.
