Festive Treasure Quest

“Prompts can give us stories from many angles. Today’s prompt gave me the story by showing me a word that’s not even in the picture.”

I wrote this story in answer to the following prompt:
Friday Fictioneers – Write a 100-word piece based on the Photo Prompt image above by © Lisa Fox
Fandangos One Word Challenge – Flaunt
Your Daily Word – Frost

Festive Treasure Quest

“Look! Two half-moons – this is it!” yelled Rosa rushing through the snowdrifts shrouded in steam.

“Great, next clue: ‘An unviewed sign points the way.’” Ollie read from their quest sheet.

The couple scanned the frost-covered birches. Both determined to flaunt themselves as winners.

“Ahh – it’s Duneview. See?” Ollie said.

“Got it! The sign’s pointing that way. What’s next?”

“Last clue – ‘Your treasure awaits where the politician roosts.’ What’s that?” Ollie questioned as the forest engulfed them.

“Let’s see.” Rosa grinned.

The couple searched for thirty minutes until —

“Owl’s nest!” Rosa plucked a Christmas stocking from the hole, claiming victory.

    1. Thank you, Rochelle.
Funny how the mind works. I looked at the prompt picture and saw the word. ‘unviewed’ I went to get some tea. I came back and realised I’d seen an anagram instead – just like that a story was born.
