“For some success comes without any work. For others nothing no matter how hard they toil seems to work. I’m in the latter category. I get my hopes up and battle down my path only to be kicked to the curb and beaten down time and again. In those times I feel the world is against me – especially when people laugh at me and tell me the only one in my way is me. If it’s just me, why is that all those who start wanting to help, ultimately fail me? One day I will step through Victor’s Door!”
I wrote this poem in answer to the following prompts:
Sadje’s What Do You See – picture above from Pixabay
Ragtag Daily Prompt — Palisade
Fandango’s One-Word Challenge – Imbibe
Your Daily Word — Escalate
The Victor’s Door
The world is against you
You build a shaky palisade
More haters join the queue
Hide behind your blockade
Your failings only escalate
As successors yell and jeer
Kneel and succumb to fate
Wait do you hear that cheer
A friend giving you courage
Imbibe yourself with power
Stand tall with a flourish
Bask upon the winner’s tower
Ignore those who make you fail
Spread your wings and soar
Banish the darkness and prevail
Grab your key to the victor’s door
Thanks for reading my friends.

Thanks, Pam. I have a few such friends. Without them I’d have vanished into the abyss a long time ago.
