Truth Behind the Paint

This sad image for Fandango’s Flash Fiction Challenge reminded me of this poem of empathy I wrote a while ago. I just had to find and share it for this picture.

Truth Behind the Paint

Why does nobody have empathy for Mr Clown

Beneath his makeup there is always a frown

No, he not having a really bad day

It’s hard being the happy face you portray

You see Mr Clown is a real man

He suffers and struggles like you can

Yet he cannot show his true sadness and pain

He has to put on a face and smile in vain

He knows the kids don’t really like him

His chances of getting rich are very slim

Even his wife is divorcing his honky nose

The mortgage went unpaid, the bank will foreclose

Demonic people making the clown a scary face

Only deepen his woes, his profession’s a disgrace

Mr Clown wants you to love what he does

He enjoys making you laugh, creating a buzz

Show a little Empathy to the clown

Help him get rid of his sad old frown

He’s depressed and doesn’t deserve to be

Give him a friend and set his laughter free

    1. It really is. One of my friend’s dads was a professional clown. He committed suicide through being so depressed purely because of being forced to be happy all the time when he wasn’t. I would never choose to be a clown,
      Thank you for reading, Fandango.
