“Have you ever sat and pondered tough decisions? Torn between difficult choices and then from nowhere you know exactly what to do. Divine inspiration is a wonderful think.”
I wrote this poem in answer to the following prompts:
FOWC with Fandango — Tobacco
Your Daily Word Prompt — Cogitate
Spiritual Advice
I sit and cogitate in the park
Listening, watching birds in the trees
I know my choices are stark
My life flutters away on the breeze
Then came the tobacco smoke
Virginia motes from a pipe
Strong but not enough to choke
Yet I’m alone with my gripe
Not a person to be seen
The park’s deserted except me
And a passing peregrine
A pipe smoking ghost roams free
‘There’s only one decision to make’
Says my spectral friend
‘Only one choice to take’
This is too much to comprehend
‘This is my life, my fate!”
I find myself yelling
‘Then do nothing and vegetate’
It replies. My tears are welling
‘I can’t fail again!’
Standing I look around
‘Then grab life by the rein’
There’s still no one to be found
‘Can I do it right?’
I ask my spiritual guest
‘Of course, your future’s bright’
Now, I’m feel less stressed
‘Make the right decision’
The ghost pushes
‘Then I follow my vision’
He’s gone with the rustle of bushes
Now, it’s getting dark
My choices have to be made
Sighing I leave the park
I won’t let my hope fade
Thanks for reading my friends.
