Disassociated Life

“Have you ever been in a group and team a situation where you just feel like you don’t belong. You’re on the outside looking in. A kitten trying to co-exist with dogs that don’t even see you. I’ve felt that in everything I’ve ever done apart from one thing. Thanks to you my wonderful WordPress friends, this place is somewhere I feel I belong.”

I wrote this poem in answer to the following prompts:
Word of the Day Challenge – Month
Pensitivity’s three things challenge – Background – Double – Fitted
Your Daily Word — Rebuff
Mindlovemisery’s Menagerie – Wordle — Records, Sudden, Indissoluble, Anodyne, Sway, Gathering, Symbol, Sound, Style, Profile

Dissassociated Life

I’m a shadow in the background
I never fitted in the foreground
Trying to belong causes double trouble
So, I hide in my dark little bubble

I try to be anodyne in my way
Kind, courteous, friendly in what I say
Yet I get the rebuff, the cold shoulder too
That’s why I’m not gathering with you

I sway in darkness, watch you succeed
While I fail, though working until I bleed
The symbol, profile, style of nonexistence
I survive through indissoluble resistance

A month of records say I’m here
I hope something I do will endear
Sudden sound— dreams falling like dominoes
Don’t flinch it’s just me in the shadows

Thanks for reading my friends. There’s more in the Poetry CornerShort Stories. and Short Stories 2 tabs.

Have a great day!

      1. I know. It was hideous for me. Left me no confidence, especially when the beta readers and editors want to change everything. I fail my sleuth in every way and had to walk away.

At least here I can write my tales and poems in short and people do actually like them. Nobody would ever like my mysteries that was made quite plain so no use trying with them anymore.

      2. You’re absolutely right to stay true to your characters. Have you tried ‘short’ stories for magazines? Sometimes they’ll even print longer tales in episodes. There are writing contests you could enter too. Your age might allow you to compete in less ‘populated’ arenas. Publishers scout those venues for new talent.

      3. I’ve done one or two things like that. Never had any luck with magazines but I got in a couple anthologies.

I don’t need another publisher after three out of three screwed me I wont trust another. I cant be successful at self publishing either and that’s why I ultimately gave up with my books.
