Insomnia Nights

This is my 500th post!

“Ha-hem, so, Insomnia sometimes becomes an unwanted bedfellow for many of us. I have it on and off throughout the year. I don’t know the cause but I know one thing, the cure is never the same twice! I’ve tried many things with differing success. Maybe one of those will help you: I’ll share them after my poem.”

I wrote this poem in answer to the following prompts:
FOWC with Fandango — Instead
Word of the Day Challenge — Tenderness
Mindlover’s Menagerie, Tale Weaver — Tired and Run down

Insomnia

Being tired and rundown leads to sickness
So, why can’t, I sleep with a quickness
Insomnia keeps me awake all night
No sleep coming, no matter how I fight

Tiredness leaves a tenderness of emotion
Yes, I already tried a sleeping potion
I’m irascible, that’s easy to make mad
Leave me alone – I’ll slap you to Trinidad

Being rundown is the worst
Leaves my head feeling fit to burst
I succumb easy to every ailment
I can’t drive – there’d be a derailment

So, somehow, I need to sleep
It’s no use counting a million sheep
Psychology failed, so I tried exercise instead
Tonight, I’ll try a sledgehammer to the head!

Possible Sleeping solutions

1. Lavender oil – a squirt on your pillow can work wonders
2. A new mattress if yours is old
3. Exercise before bed – to make you tired
4. blue light blocking glasses, or a screen ban after 9PM so screens cant ruin your circadian rhythm.
5. Almonds, Cocoa with full milk. Increases the natural serotonin producing chemicals in the body which can induce sleep
6. Routine – Up a 7AM and into the sun (if you can bloody see it that is!) in bed by 10PM every day. helps that circadian rhythm.
7. Meditative Breathing as you try to sleep to help you relax.
8. Sleeping remedies can have mixed results.
9. If all else fails you must undo some sleep studies with your doctor.

Thanks for reading, my friends, I really do appreciate it.

Don’t forget there’s always plenty more poem for you in the Poetry Corner. tab.

Have a great day!

  1. Oooh… a poetry corner tab!! Thanks for stopping by the Damned Family series. I’ve been poking around your place. I’m primarily a poet. Thanks for your input. Writing 99 words is a challenge I picked up at a prompt site called the Carrot Ranch Literary Community .

Sleep oh, that’s another ball of wax all together as when I do – I vividly dream!!
Being more than less ‘retired’ I don’t really have a routine. I do attempt meditative techniques when Morphos is busy elsewhere.

If you’ve got the time to read 99 segments in order I’d be happy to send them too you. Just let me know. As you’ve actually stumbled upon the last episode (for now). But yes I can see there are questions that need answers. Cheers, Jules

      1. I’m not quite a professional, though I’ve got some works in several books for charity, and actually got some money from winning a flash fiction contest a couple of years ago via the Carrot Ranch Rodeo.

Tons of started series, alas few finished. But yes, volumes of tomes (in the early days in handwritten in actual journal type books, before that just typed up on paper in file folders). Blogging has help me meet new writing friends and expand into flash fiction.

I look at blogging in a similar way. Others get to enjoy my writing. Especially when writing to a prompt piece. While I can’t visit every one at ever prompt I write to… I do return as many visits as I am able. Since I only follow a few sites.

Don’t we all need a personal secretary and a publisher (skip the editors though… especially for poetry!).

I actually had a series I had started with a Jinn 😉 Though it isn’t public anymore. My family treats my writing as my hobby… which I guess it is. But who knows maybe someday I’ll figure out how to expand on that 😉

      2. Writing for charity is very amicable.

I was the other way. I wrote a series of mystery novels and failed to publish them. Now I just write my tales and poems for fun.

You have Jinn like mine? Thats a weird coincidence.

      3. They are on private pages. I’d have to look and find them… OK I finally found the one series… (Only three pieces actually wrote them about 6 years ago) Would you like me to email them to you?

    1. My pleasure Michael, thanks for reading.

I think we live in a world where there is so much to worry and concern us. Whether we realise or not we’re just so stressed all the time and then we can t relax to sleep.

Hope you manage a little sleep soon!

  2. Congrats on 500 posts!!! That’s quite an accomplishment!! It’s taken me a year to get even 100, so I am in utter awe of your progress and success. Thanks for sharing another wonderful piece of enlightening and entertaining poetry. Well done!!

  3. Insomnia nights I wish I could not relate, in this date I can. Ever since my last and final surgery. I am desperate for one solid night, I think yes I am such a fright without it. No doubt I can’t wait until my surgeon frees me to sleep on my side.

Nice share, that has been my every night for almost a a month now. Then yesterday I woke, and I think I have a sickness coming on. See same song, and dance. Not by chance. I am tried, rundown, and weary.

Goodnight again, it is only the day that might grace me with a little reprieve in that of a cat nap. Snap me back to my senses. I feel ya! Blessings Lisa

      1. I have many of my writings that are poetic prose I think one put it. I am eclectic in my style of writing. I like to express myself in many forms. I got stuck in one niche’ years ago, and that is why I changed the name of my blog so I can write about anything under the sun. No really my dream is to be a rapper, jk! Hey have a rad day! ☺️

      2. I made the same mistake. I created my blog to be about my mystery series and then failed to publish it permanently which meant I was stuck and unable to do anything. So, I had a complete rebranding and went again with my menagerie.

You write beautiful things and you should totally go for the rapping dream!
