“When I saw todays image, it made me all reminiscent. So, instead of a proper story. Here’s something a little truer and different.”
I wrote this Story in answer to the following prompts:
Fandango’s Flash Fiction Challenge #99 – The image above
FOWC with Fandango — Remiss
Your Daily Word Prompt — Assured
Ragtag Daily Prompt — Galivant
Word of the Day Challenge — Balk — It’s ‘Baulk’ lol what is with the USA and its hatred for the ‘U’
Galivant Through Time
I would be remiss if I forgot all those wonderful summers. I would go on a jolly galivant to the coast with a handful of copper coins. The greatest pleasure came from investing them in the arcade. The music, sounds and smells filled me with great joy as I searched for a conquest. I’d find one of those coin pusher games with a toy or keyring right on the edge. Of course, I was never assured a win, these things are often rigged in some fiendish way. Never stopped me banging a few pounds worth of coppers in the slots to try though. Most day’s I return home with a victorious smile and a soft toy, keyring or a plastic monstrosity I’d wrestled from the pile of copper coins. Oh, what fun that used to be.
Now, I’m older and how things have changed. I haven’t seen a two-pence-piece in ages. Everything is bought and sold on bits of plastic now. Can’t shove a card in a coin machine, it’d gum up the works! More than that, money is so damned tight it gives me a headache. Every time I have to go and buy things, I baulk at the rising cost and grab onto the shelving rack to stop from fainting. Yes, knowing fifty, two-pence pieces might just buy me a loaf of bread, I couldn’t put them in a gambling machine if I wanted too now. It’s not all doom and gloom. I still galivant down to the sea. Only, now I paddled with Lucy dog and enjoy some photography. I can do those things, almost, for free.
Thanks for reading my friends
Have a great day!
