The Best Season

This Post was written for Fandango’s Dog Days of August #28

Today’s Prompt is: Your favourite Season

My favourite season is Autumn. I love the changing colours of the leaves. The chance to cook with ingredients freshly harvested from the fields and hedgerows. If better the chance to have a little fun at Halloween and bonfire night. I can almost taste that pumpkin pie and fire roasted jacket potato, with butter already!

I love the way the leaves turn gold.

As the autumn winds blow cold

Almost all which is green is browned

Then the leaves begin fluttering to the ground

The pumpkins swell in their mystic field

Farmers rejoiced, having harvested great yield

This means Halloween draws ever near

What a wonderful night of fun and fear

The autumnal woods just come alive

Every creature working hard to survive

Frantic squirrels storing those last few nuts

Preparing for the time when winter abuts

I drink in the last golden rays of autumn sun

Draped in a blanket remembering summer of fun

I juggle a few shiny conkers in the air

Smiling, knowing November will soon be here

The last hurrah of autumn is a flash of light

The 5th of November a wonderful bonfire night

As the fireworks explode in a colourful free for all.

I smile, yes the best season is the Autumn fall.

Thanks for reading my friends. As always there are more stories to be enjoyed (I hope) in the Short Stories and Short Stories 2 tabs. There’s also poetry here in Poetry Corner

Have a great day!
