This Poem was written for Fandango’s Dog Days of August #26
Today’s Prompt is: Your favourite Quote.
My favourite quote:

Yes “The more I learn about people, the more I like my dog.” – Mark Twain
I love this one as it always speaks the truth. You always know where you stand with a dog. A person however is like an onion – many complex layers of psychology. Some you see other deeply hidden beneath the skin. The layer you get today may not be the one you see tomorrow. Thus trusting a person is a difficult thing to do.
Whereas; if a dog shows you love, the dog means it.
Samuel Langhorne Clemens better known by his pen name Mark Twain, was an American writer, humourist, entrepreneur, publisher, and lecturer. He wrote the classics Tom Sawyer and HuckleBerry Finn among amazing classics. He like myself was a great lover of dogs too. Here are some more wonderful quotes from Mark Twain about dogs.
‘My father was a Saint Bernard, my mother was a Collie, but I am a Presbyterian.’
‘When a man’s dog turns against him it is time for a wife to pack her trunk and go home to mama.’
‘It takes me a long time to lose my temper, but once lost I could not find it with a dog.’
‘If you pick up a starving dog and make him prosperous, he will not bite you. This is the principal difference between a dog and a man.’
‘If animals could speak, the dog would be a blundering outspoken fellow; but the cat would have the rare grace of never saying a word too much.’

I hope you enjoyed my favourite quote and few more from one of the greatest writers who ever lived.
Thanks for reading my friends. As always there are more stories to be enjoyed (I hope) in the Short Stories and Short Stories 2 tabs. There’s also poetry here in Poetry Corner
Have a great day!
These are great! Rumor had it that Mark Twain is related to my maternal grandfather’s side, but I cannot prove it to be true… I also like the onion quote.

Wow, how cool to related to Mark Twain. You are great writer so I believe it.
I don’t know who said the onion thing, but it was the right words for what I was trying to say lol.

Thank so much for posting these, Mason. I love Samuel Clemens. “Tom Sawyer” was a book that got me through one particularly trying summer. I just kept re-reading it. “Life on the Mississippi: is an all time favorite of mine. This brought back really nice memories 🙂

My pleasure, I have Tom Sawyer, Life on the Mississippi and a few others of his. They’re wonderful books to get lost in. I started reading the classics like these as a eight year old. They were my first steps to becoming a writer I think.
Glad you enjoyed these.

Lucy Dog’s eyes speak volumes of love. So sweet. Btw, we need Mark Twain now more than ever. His literary genius notwithstanding, his humour and wisdom and plain-speaking teach us a lot as writers and individuals in what is basically a fallen world. Except for those angels of light, our dogs. Have you seen mine? She’s the header on my JollyBeggar.com site. Passed away unexpectedly a couple of years ago but always in my heart.

Lucy dog is a big lover alright. She drowns me in wet kisses every day!
Mark Twain would be disgust with the world today I think. AMerica need him as their new president to begin fixing it.
I’m so sorry you lost your poor dog, she looked so adorable.
Thank you for the link to your site to. I only had you on the Dreams of a Pilgrimage one.
