Work Longer

This poem was written in answer to The Word of the Day Challenge : Longer

Longer means: Measuring a greater distance from end to end. Lasting or taking a greater amount of time.

Here’s what I came up with…

Work Longer

The winners are those who work for longer

The ones who learn, climb higher, grow stronger

I’m not so sure this is true

The way to success is easy to misconstrue

Sure, working hard can get you there

But let’s face it, our world isn’t fair

Most of the victors are on the rich list

For the rest of us, we can only persist

Oh, for a folder of good contacts

We have no choice but to face the facts

Most of us are on our own in this fight

Just getting stepped on the longer we write

Sure, we might get success the longer we work

The lucky ones get there even when they shirk

Well, I’ll fight for a little longer

At least my follower list is getting stronger

I don’t know if I’ll cross the finish line

If I make a few readers smile, victory is mine
